Your privacy is important to us
At IDIA, we are committed to providing you with the finest educational products and services backed by consistent top-quality service, and while information about you is fundamental to our ability to do this, we fully recognize the importance of keeping your personal and account information secure. IDIA will not share, sell, or loan any personal information with any outside entities. We want you to understand our information safeguards, what information we collect, what information we share, and the benefits you receive when we share information about you.
This notice describes the privacy practices of the Institute for Domestic & International Affairs, Inc. and all IDIA affiliates, including our various conferences and other programs.
Our Security Procedures
IDIA understands the importance of protecting and securing your information. Access to information about you is restricted to the people of IDIA who require it to provide products or services to you. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal standards for the security of information.
Information We Collect
IDIA collects and uses nonpublic personal information about you to conduct our business and to consistently deliver top-quality customer service. Sources of this information include information we receive from you on applications and other forms, or through your correspondence or communication with us including through the mail, by telephone, or over the Internet.
Information We Share Within IDIA
We may share all of the information we collect about you with other programs within IDIA to offer additional products or services that may interest you and best meet your needs. We believe this is convenient for you and may save you both time and money. To do so, we share identification information (such as name and address) and other school-relevant data. The decision to purchase any such products or services is yours alone.
Important Information About Your Choice
We're dedicated to serving your needs - and to respecting your choices related to privacy. From time to time, IDIA will forge partnerships with external entities that offer beneficial information and services to our participants. These partnerships function solely on an opt-in basis. You will only be enrolled in services that you choose. Again, IDIA will not share, sell, or loan personal data for any reason. However, if you choose to opt-in to any of these services, it may be necessary to contact these external entities directly should you wished to be removed from their lists.
Internet Privacy Practices
The IDIA web servers automatically recognize and record the domain name from which you access the Internet and the names of the pages you visit while at an IDIA website. The IDIA web servers do not automatically extract or store your electronic mail address (see E-Mail Addresses below). The information automatically recognized and recorded is not personally identifiable and is used to improve the content of IDIA websites and make them more useful.
If you supply us with your e-mail address, we may let you know by e-mail about new IDIA programs and services that might be of interest to you. This may include, but is not limited to, online services, conference programs, and other appropriate events. When we collect your e-mail address, and with each e-mail message we send, we will provide you with the opportunity to tell us that you do not wish to receive messages from us in the future. However, IDIA reserves the right to service your account and communicate with you through e-mail about your account. This may include, but is not limited to, activating your accounts, account past due notices, and other appropriate purposes.
IDIA uses encryption technology to protect certain information sent over the Internet. SSL is an encryption technology known as "Secure Sockets Layer." SSL encrypts transmissions between two parties and verifies the website server you are communicating with. An "s" after the "http" in a website's address indicates that you are attached to a secure server using SSL technology. Additionally, if your browser is Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0, Netscape Navigator 4.0, or a higher version of either, a picture of a lock or a key should appear in the lower right hand corner of the browser's window.
IDIA websites do not knowingly collect or use personal information from children under age 13 without obtaining verifiable parental consent. If a child whom we know to be under age 13 sends personal information to an IDIA website, we will use that information only in accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
To Further Protect Your Privacy
While exploring the services offered through IDIA's websites, please be aware that other online retailers, partners, third party Internet sites, and third party services accessible through IDIA's websites have separate privacy and data collection policies and practices which are independent of and may be different from IDIA's policies and practices. IDIA is not responsible or liable for these independent policies and practices and it is your responsibility to review them and decide whether or not they satisfactorily protect your rights.
These Internet Privacy Practices were last updated 15 May 2002 and update and replace any previous Internet Privacy Practices from IDIA. We may amend these Internet Privacy Practices at any time, and when such a change is made we will post a revised version on this IDIA website. Changes will be effective when they are posted. It is your responsibility to review these Internet Privacy Practices from time to time to be aware of any such changes. Your continued use of this IDIA website indicates your agreement to any such changes.
